Throwback Thursday: Retro Summer Fun Activities

I was watching the movie Grown Ups last night with my man and it reminded me that the kids today (wow that makes me sound so old) don’t understand what it means to enjoy life. Especially summer. When I was young, I couldn’t wait for summer. It means I got to be a tomboy, I got to play all day at Ledges in Boone, it meant I got to climb trees, and skin my knees (not intended to rhyme btw) and it meant when I loved i the city I got to have lemonade stands and go rollerskating and fly kites and all the fun outdoor activities.

If you are struggling for ideas, I have found this list for you to print off and mark off as you finish up your summer. For some like here in the mid west, school is just around the corner. For others school is a bit of time away. Regardless the days for the Summer of 2013 are soon ending and I don’t know about you but I believe in making every moment count.

Right click image, save as, then print, or print off straight away if you

There are plenty more activities and ideas out there everywhere on line. Just Google or Bing “Summer Activities”.

Step away from the computer and video games and make your kids do the same. Go play with them, connect with them and make great old time family memories. Take your kids and maybe others out with you and let the kids make friends the old fashioned way…IN PERSON.

Bring back the good ole days have some fun in the sun!

Until next time,

Xoxo

Monday Manifesto

A few summer”s ago I started doing Manifesto’s. I learned from Ali Edwards about this at the time. I have manifestos for all sorts of things but my favorite Manifesto is my Summer one. Perhaps it is because each year it grows and changes, it allows me to see what did I do last year and what will I carry to this summer.

The manifesto is in a way a TO DO list. This is something I make to post where I can see it and remind me to enjoy the summer and not stay stuck behind a computer.

The first one I did I wrote down on paper, collaged it and then posted it up.

The second one I did was on Word, then I changed the fonts and colors of the text, added a border and then printed it and posted it.

I liked both ways and you may choose one or the other.

Making a manifesto is a great thing to do with kids as well as for yourself.

Give the kids a bunch of markers or crayons and ask them to write down all the things they want to do this summer. Have them choose different colors for each item on the list, add stickers or draw on them with butterfly’s or bugs and then post them on the fridge or the wall for them and you to see.

If you have more than one child in your home or in your preschool, maybe make a box and cut the ideas up and pick one or two out a week. Or perhaps you can do both. Have them each do a manifesto for themselves and then make a box or list of ideas for the group as a whole.

Here is more info on my other Manifestos from my Art Page: The Art of Trisha Trixie

Google Summer Manifesto and you will find tons and TONS of others who do these same types of Manifestos as I do. There are many ways to do it and many ways to be creative.

Make a Ball Float on Air - Image Collection

What is better than making a balloon float on air?  The directions are all included on the Spoonful website.

Does your child like to paint?  There are many canvas studios that offer children’s painting.  This is a fun way for your child to invent on a canvas.  A local business called Social Canvas offers this service, but check your local area for all the selections.

I saw some youngsters doing this and they seemed to really find a sense of accomplishment.  You will be amazed at how much it relaxes your child too!

Maybe you don’t have time to set up a huge crafting project, but the little ones need something to do.  Well, the DLTK’s website offers many printable coloring, crafting, and activities for you little ones to complete.  This site is well worth its weight in gold!

Don’t forget your little one might enjoy to craft in some of our lovely apron designs just for kiddos.  Check them out at our etsy store.  Custom orders are always welcome.

She’s the image of sweet innocence!
Prom perhaps?
Simply adorable, aren’t they?
This truly istoo cute for words….
No words necessary.

Fashion Friday-Watermelon Shades & Styles

~Watermelon Wardrobes~

Since the colors and shades of “Watermelon” are so popular at this time I was
given the challenge of setting it as part of a future posting; here it is:
Let’s begin outdoors.

Next up are the children.
They look like little dolls, don’t they?
Speaking of dolls, they have a sense of fashion as well.
Now, on to the adults shall we?
I believe we can literally call it a wrap.
A fun combination for a day outside.

More formally presented.
Casually presented.

A very nice combination for going to those ball games.
Now, let’s dress it up a bit…
Let’s face it, watermelon is delicious,

no matter how you go about sharing it!
All of this reminds me of a song I learned in elementary school….”Oh plant a watermelon vine upon my grave, and let the juice, (slurp, slurp) run through….”

From yards, children and dolls, casual outings, ballparks and special events, you can plant your watermelon vine and enjoy the “juicy” flavors of the wonderful fashions associated with “watermelon”.
