Elements to Thanksgiving Cooking for a Fashionista

Today is the day before Thanksgiving and of course this is the REAL day we all start cooking. I know how my sister prepares and how my grandmother prepared for the day, by worrying about the food and caring less about how they look. For a fashionista, however, the elements of fashion, though no one may even see her, can be an important role in this holiday.

For me it begins with the right house dress. I have to be able to move around in it. I like it to be cotton so it can breathe. I have one I am wearing today and one picked tomorrow that will go with my new apron I made.

Make sure you have comfortable shoes to move around in, go up and down stairs (my pantry in down a level)

A good hair tie to tie your hair back, but not too tight that it will give you a headache and…

A pretty Fascinator (made by me of course) to keep you looking pretty while you sweat it out through the cooking and baking all day.

No tights, or wear leggings if your think your legs might get cold. You will be in a hot kitchen so the likelihood is more so that you will be too hot not too cold.

A nice strand of pearls or something equivalent. I got this wonderful strand of beads at Backroads Studio. She is local to Iowa and her and her friend do amazing Jewelery pieces.

Some small, but charming little earrings. (I have a few of these left if you want some or they are easy to make and I think I found all the fixings for them at Walmart)

If you put on makeup, which I always do, apply lightly. If it is too heavy you will end up with more on a towel than on your face by the end of the day. I do very light makeup, using more on my eyes with eyeliner and mascara for fuller eyes.

For lipstick staying power throughout the day I use  Kat Von D

Finish it all off with hair spray, makeup powder by DD Dupree Cosmetics, Luana Foundation, Dr. FeelGood by Benefit,

and you are ready to start cooking!

Remember…

Bake first, cook later!

If you get all the baking out of the way those items can cool down and then you can pop that turkey in and lett that baby simmer the day away! I hope you all have a fabulous day today and tomorrow!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Kiss Kiss,

Wishcasting Wednesday: Learn

If you follow my other Blog As Days Go By you know I generally write my Wishcasting over there. But I wanted to do something different today and try it out over here. As well Today’s question goes hand in hand with Fashion and you will see why:

Wishcasting Wednesday: What do you wish to learn?

I wish to learn MORE about Fashion Essentials.

  • I love learning
  • I do know how to sew, but I am self taught with some basics in quilting and what my Grandma Hunter taught me (which was brief)
  • I have always been a Fashionista, but styling and designing are two separate things.
  • As I am an artist I did Fashion Illustrations for years fearing taking the leap into fashion.
  • When I did try to launch things two years ago the timing was not right and I tucked my tail between my legs and ran off whimpering saying “Oh I can’t have a Fashion business because some  Entrepreneurial Company that helps start ups told me so“. I don’t know what I was thinking. I rarely listen to the static so why did I listen then? Who knows, but I am listening now.
  • I wanted to get back into modeling for years but felt stifled by the person I was with and their insecurities about me and about the industry. With me leaping back into modeling , it helped me look at my life and leap back into Fashion. I am EXTREMELY happy I did!!
  • I now have a few people that work with me, Interns, Independent Contractor Seamstresses, and more.
  • Though all of this is GREAT and WONDERFUL I have been realizing, I am missing something.
  • All my Fashion Design skills and sewing skills, Analysis, Design, Buying, Merchandising etc are all self taught with maybe one or two jobs in the Fashion Industry.
  • What will it take for me to REALLY be GREAT???
  • LEARNING
  • I have investigated what it will take for me to go back to school.
  • I have Design training but it is an overall Design Degree as well as my Liberal Arts Degree. These are great but I think I would highly benefit from learning more about some Fashion Essentials.
  • I have looked at my options and the best best seems to be the local Community College here called DMACC, Des Moines Area Community College with courses in Fashion for a Fashion Degree or Certification https://go.dmacc.edu/pibs/documents/FSHNDSGN.PDF
  • In the meantime I am reading up on books and classes I find online. Still learning and more self taught but at least I am able to GLEAN and LEARN this way and I feel lucky because I know many who cannot. Free Fashion Courses Online

So in essence what I wish to know more about is what I wish to create…Fashion…

What do you wish to learn? Say hi here on the blog below and while you are at it, come on down and check me out in my many places that have led me to here…

SMS: Bang Bang

I am a Pin Up Girl. Which means hours sometimes with my arms in the air rolling victory rolls. The one thing I have really been wanting and hating is how I don’t have bangs. Many of the Pin Up gals have the cutest bangs!

So today I am going off to get some bangs…and some other added attributes to my hair.

So say goodbye to the long front locks that I have to roll and pin.

When I am done I hope to have a Betty Paige Bang like this gorgeous gal
I even sent this video to my gal over at Aveda Institute and Design
I go to the school for my Beauty thing I need, Hair, nails, toes,  eybrows you name it for a few reasons…
  1. They are less expensive
  2. They need to learn now how to do many of the difficult things I need so there are better experienced gals out there doing Pin Up hair and needs
  3. They have qualified instructors to help guide them and assist them if there is a problem
  4. They are always go good to me. And I mean ALL of the staff. The cashier to the instructor to the person doing my service, no matter what. No one has even been rude or mean or disrespectful to me in the time I have been going there which has been awhile now.
  5. I am collecting students. Its a joke, but though I do have my favorites and they know who they are, I enjoy getting to know new students from the Alphas to the ones on the Floor. Little by little I think the students who DON”T know me are even getting to know me by my look. Not many come in asking for White blonde hair, pin up eyebrows and Victory Rolls for photo shoots.
  6. They are located here in Iowa
  7. I love Aveda Products

So if you are local, and looking for a great inexpensive place to go with a great staff and great services and great products, check them out. If you are not local, see if there is an Aveda Institute near you. If not, find a good school in your area, it will really help them and you in the long run.

Come follow me on Facebook either on my Model Page to see how it turns out!

Also come find me at my SensaFashion Designer page. We just added the SensaFashion Shop so now you can buy items right from Facebook or online via PayPal.

Until next time,

How to look Comfy & Cute

I was asked this week How to Look Comfy and Cute by Jenna Kramer? Well, I added to that a bit and am also adding in Work Appropriate (if it is Friday) If not wear a skirt, leggings, or slacks with this not jeans.
I am a Camisole kinda gal. If needed on a think shirt I will wear a bra, but I like these like Victoria Secret has that have a shelf bra in them. The fact that they are Polka Dots help me feel cute even underneath. The other wonderful thing is with how cold it is today, this helps keep me warm.
Pink Polka Cami
I even wear Polka Dotted panties (ok they are hearts but close enough) to continue the Cute trend underneath
Polka Heart Panties
I love this sweet necklace a newer pal got me for a gift.
I couldn’t decide which earrings
But these ones won out because they matched the necklace the best
Then I layer up sock, one long to tuck in pants and one extra for foot warmth
Don my Cutest boots I got in Valley Junction (I get quite noticed in these bad boys)
My favorite torn jeans, shirt left out and sweater add to the comfy, cute and paired with something other than jeans Work Appropriate as well
Collar shirt, Fuzzy sweater from Wet Seal, jewels, hair and makeup
Then of course rocking it with my Gwen Stefani style coat and my Glam Glasses!
See! It is all attainable. You just have to learn or know how to style it. And THAT is why people pay me to raid their closet , style for them or shop for them. If you need help with any of those, MY services are for hire and available. Until then, keep following my blogs and eventually you will get your own Sense of Style and Fashion!
