Apronizing America

20130913_145841What does “Apronizing America ” mean, exactly?

This is a common thing I am asked quite often.

I believe that Aprons are a fashion accessory. I believe they can and should be worn out like one would wear a scarf, a necklace or a necktie. Apron can spice up ANY wardrobe, make, female, child, or even a pet or a doll!

When not wearing an apron out, I feel like I am leaving something behind.

But if I do, you can be sure that whatever I AM wearing is something I created, whether that is a Fascinator, a dress I made, my earrings, you name it, there is something from my creations.

Mostly, I love to make fashionable aprons because I hear the stigma of what people think an Apron is and I am not just out to get America to WEAR an Apron, I am trying to change a whole MINDSET!!

An Apron is NOT just for the Kitchen anymore and my aprons are NOT your grandma’s aprons.

I want to show you by creating fabulous things, dresses to go under them, fascinators to help accessorize them, and of course, Aprons that are spicy alternatives to dress up anything you wear or not wear (if you so prefer) to help add flair, spice and fabulousness to your life!

I am also NOT like other apron makers I have seen out there. Most work from their fabric in stock and create based on tissue paper patterns. Some design their own patterns, but then it is a constant “Cookie- Cutter” repeat of the same apron, with different fabric/textile.

I start from a Fashion Designer base FIRST! Meaning, I design based on the specs you give me in a quote from my Fashion Request Form. I then take that information and design within those parameters and then send you the design to approve. From there, within TWO WEEKS, I create your fabulous design.

You can choose if you want a Custom Apron or a BeSpoke Apron. Custom means I can use the design pattern I created for you and use it for another request. BeSpoke means you are the only one wit that design and it cannot be used for anything else.

You don’t see that from other Apron Makers, for the most part. I am sure there are one or two who “might” do that, but it is rare.

I feel and think this way of thinking has the potential to do as I desire and to help Apronize America because America will see how unique and different my aprons are as well as my mentality about wearing and using them.

Do I make Domestic Aprons? Yes, with Flair & Fabulousness!

Do I make other things? Yes, as long as they are true to my brand, meaning they will go WITH other things I create.

The questions I get asked most? Do I love what I do?

Yes. You know that song “Living what I love and loving what I do…”? That is the epitome of how I feel everyday.

What’s Next for Trisha Trixie?

Apron Builder. My Online Apron Creation Technology. On Apron Builder YOU are the designer. I give you the base template and you create what YOU desire. Then it gets printed and sent to you to construct by either sewing or other alternatives like No Stick Glue, Fabric Bond Adhesive or who knows, maybe you want to staple yours together! That is all on YOU!

What if I don’t want to use Apron Builder? Good thing you still have me! Trisha Trixie Designs will  still be the Custom BeSpoke Apron Maker and myself and my seamstresses will be available to be of service to you!

So, you see…there is no reason NOT to wear an apron and I have even made it simple and easy for you to do.

Now, Let’s Apronize America together!

Trisha Trixie Tips Tuesday-Taggarrifiic

tag[1]

Just wanted to shout out to my pal Donna Grossman who owns That Girl Knitz, Rockabettie Bands and Rockabettie Boutique for her Taggarrific Tagging!

I learned a long time ago that is you want to be found online, if you have to TAG. If anyone knows how to tag it’s THAT GIRL (ha ha see what I did there)

I am a constant tagger too but even I lack tagging in certain categories that I see she had.

A good way to add tags to your own Blog or website is to do what I did today. Look at other sites that are similar to yours and copy their tags. There is nothing wrong with copying as long as it really does fit your site/blog. Search out sites that do similar things as you. look for blogs that are similar. I like Bloglovin because I can see other bloggers who do Fashion and Aprons and write in other ways like I do. Then I take a peek at their tags and see what they are tagging. Sometimes it is the same as mine, nothing new, but every now and then I come across a blogger who has completely different tags than I have and I think “Now why didn’t think of using that tag!?” When you see those, grab em! Copy them and add then to you Blog site or Website. Believe me, that one “little” tag could be the thing that gets you found online over other competitors!

If you don’t sell things Bikers would like, don’t use the tag word Biker. If you don’t sell Soap, don’t tag the word soap. Now if you write a blog about Soap, then Tag Soap. Am I making any sense here?

No, ok let’s go back. Only use tags for things you are talking about, selling, writing or doing.

But wait, you say, if  I use other tags that aren’t things I am doing, won’t that help bring business to my page? Well, you would think so. But what ends up happening is that people will come to your site looking for those items and then when they realize you don’t sell them and only used them to get you to their page, generally they get pretty upset about it.

If you want to use other tags to bring people to your site or page, the best way  I have found is to write a blog about those things. Then you can use the tags and write about them to generate more traffic.

Trisha Trixie Tuesday! Bespoke (Custom-Made-to-Order-MadetoMeasure)

What’s “Bespoke”?

Bespoke is an adjective for anything commissioned to a particular specification. “Custom-made”, “made to order”, “made to measure” and sometimes “hand-made” are near-synonyms.

The word bespoke is derived from the verb to bespeak, to “speak for something”, in the specialized meaning “to give order for it to be made” or commission, first cited from 1583 by the OED, with the adjective in its alternative form “bespoken” first quoted from 1607 in this sense.[1] The term is generally more prevalent in British English than American English, which tends to use “custom” instead, as in custom car, custom motorcycle etc.

So, with the bespoke items available from Trisha Trixie, you can create a customized items JUST FOR YOU! How do you do that?

Recipe Sunday: Crumb Cake aka Coffee Cake

I love to make this recipe. I get begged to make it for others in fact. Today was one of those days. My hunney pants has not been feeling well and begged me to make him my “Famous Yummy Crumb Cake.” I laugh at the name he gave it because I said “Hunney, if it wasn’t yummy no one would want to eat it.” and without missing a beat, he said, “ya never know. Some people like yucky things.”

Oh hunney pants.

But I digress.

So this morning, as promised, I got up at 7 ish and threw on my little red country apron,

1507112_10151960928247012_1853435820_n

whipped out the Bisquick recipe. But see, I don’t follow it exactly so I will post it and ad my adjustments so you can make yours yummy too (or so we hope)

Here is a link if you want to go to the page http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/bisquick-velvet-crumb-cake/040ff627-c75e-43aa-abce-56a5a00b919f

Cake ( I double the recipe, but only use 1/2 c sugar)

1 1/2
cups Original Bisquick™ mix (HeartSmart box)
1/2
cup granulated sugar (Remeber to use only half if you double this recipe)
1/2
cup milk or water ( I mix half milk and half water)
2
tablespoons shortening (Butter not shortening)
1
teaspoon vanilla (I use Vanilla Paste from Allspice or Tahitian Vanilla. I have also used Madagascar as well)
1
egg (Organic Eggs)

Topping

1/3
cup packed brown sugar
1/4
cup chopped nuts (no nuts. Yuck I hate nuts in things)
3
tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
2
tablespoons milk (No milk in mine)
Add a touch of nutmeg and a touch of cinnamon to the topping

Directions

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 9-inch round cake pan or 8-inch square pan. In large bowl, beat Bisquick mix, granulated sugar, 1/2 cup milk, shortening, vanilla and egg with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on medium speed 4 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour into pan.
  • ( I sprinkle half the topping mixture on now and let it bake in)
  • Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean; cool slightly.
  • In small bowl, mix coconut, brown sugar, nuts, butter and 2 tablespoons milk. Spread topping over cake. Set oven control to broil. Broil about 3 inches from heat about 3 minutes or until golden brown.

Expert Tips

Add a handful of chocolate chips or butterscotch chips to the topping for a decadent finish.

For the cake, you can use 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened, instead of the shortening.

If you’re chopping nuts in a food processor, use quick pulses to avoid an oily mess. Go ahead and chop more nuts than you need. Wrap and freeze the extra nuts to use later.

You can also bake this most-requested cake in a 9-inch square pan for 25 to 30 minutes.

I also like to make cupcakes out of these for small handles to hold and eat.

20140622_074952 Comes out nice and fluffy in a long but slight ridge pan.

20140622_075224 Perfect, moist and fluffy

Enjoy your cake with tea, coffee, milk or whatever you choose.

I have many friends who don’t drink coffee so I quit calling it Coffee Cake and started calling it Crumb Cake now. Either way, It is yummy and easy to make.

Happy Sunday!

Fabulous Friday!Be Fabulous Fabric

First off I want to apologize for the lack of posts lately. After I came back from NYFW my feet have been hitting the ground getting the word out for my Fun and Fabulous Fashion Show , my hands have been busily sewing away and my mind has been a bit single minded focus. But in the midst of all that came a few fun things I wanted to share with you!

I wanted to have some specialty fabric created for my Fashion Show and so I found this site called SpoonFlower that allow you to create any fabric, wallpaper or decal from a design. It is a bit pricey but so worth it. There are three fabrics from my Spoonflower Shop I will be showcasing in my show that I Custom Created. One will be worn by the Owner of Java Joe’s Amy Brehm who I made this cute Retro Black and White Apron for with a Be Fabulous Piece of Fabric made for her lower bib and top pockets.

I will have a couple of other great fabrics in the show as well. If you are an artist and would love to see your designs on a wall, a decal or on fabric go check them out.

If you want me to create an Apron from your designed fabric just use my contact form on this site and I would love to create one for you. If you want any other garment created, hit me up and I could connect you to someone who could make it for you I am nearly sure! 😉

TrishaTrixie Tuesdays: The Boyfriend Apron

Do you have an old boyfriend shirts you just don’t know what to do with? I found a tutorial on how to take a shirt and make it into an apron and thought I would show you my process and how I did it for this Trixie Tuesdays

image

image

I cut off the arms and then trimmed them for the ties

image

I cut thae collar and used as much of the sleeve as I could for each set of ties

image

I laid out each sleeve and then slit up the sides to open it up

image

like this I laid it out and then counted four squares over and cut

image

I also took what was left of the top part of the collar and trimmed it to use for puppy and cat scarves

Stay tuned later today to see how this turns out!

Until then,

What’s Happening Wednesday: Catch Up Day

I have been busy doing so many other things and trying things out I have been bad in not devoting time to the “needed” things like Inventory, updating the website, updating my Online Store, and most especially sewing, making Aprons and Pocket Squares.

So today, that is what I am doing here.

I hate doing those businessy things because it is time consuming and takes away from the creative side of things, but those things must be done. I mean how you going to know what to buy if the item is not updated?

As I said I DO need to get some sewing done and I have been wanting to start on the Vintage Male Chef Aprons I have had an idea about for some time. I know my male followers will be super happy to see what comes out of this! Let’s just say, when I am done, you might be a bit “overdressed” at the BBQ or in the kitchen! 🙂

Taking care of my business is an essential part though so today I will handle those little tasks that need tended to but I will do it with fun and style! I still put on a fun outfit, add a fun “working or crafting” apron, add some tuneage then have some fun. I take care of the mindless tasks and then interchange it with the fun things. This way I don’t feel overwhelmed.

In the end, I hope for this to be a productive day, though I know it will be very busy!

Hope you have a fun Wednesday and you make it fun while going about your business.

Here is a little song to help you get along your way. Whenever I think of doing BIZNESS I think of the beginning of the song and then as the lyrics go through I change the words to

“There’s no business like my business like my business I know…” and so on so it makes it more fun!

Until Next Time,

Trisha Trixie

Sunday Recipe: Pasta ala Tarragon with Scallops and Parmesan Bread

Pasta Ala Tarragon with Scallops and Parmesan Bread

scallops

What should one wear to prepare such a fancy dish?

Apron Suggestion

Well, this calls for a fancy affair.  One of Trisha Trixie designed dress apron would be so fitting.  There are a ton to view in her store.  However, I have chosen the brown tiger stretch.

tigerstretch

Of course you will need a darling shoe to match.  The Spectator pump found at pinupgirlclothing.com really will add some sexy to your style.

spectator pump

To top this outfit off our famous Trisha Trixie has designed a beautiful set called The Key to my Heart featuring a beautiful cameo.

keytomyheart

Now that you are ready to bake here are the ingredients!

Ingredients

Bread

  • One stick of butter
  • Three minced gloves of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning (The basil took on too much flavor and I would avoid adding this)
  • 1 roll of refrigerated Pillsbury grand rolls. (I think I will try an refrigerated Italian bread next time, as this was far too sweet for an Italian meal)
  • 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese

Pasta ala Tarragon with Scallops for 2

  • 1/2 box of Penne Pasa
  • 10 or so Bay Scallops
  • 1 12 oz jar of sweet roasted red peppers
  • 1/4 cup white wine
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup of butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of basil (fold basil and slice thin)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

If you are making the bread, begin with the bread.

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  While the oven is preheating put the stick of butter in your bunt pan and put the pan in the oven.  This will melt the butter.

2. Cut your grand biscuits into quarters.

3. In a bowl mix your garlic, Italian seasoning and Parmesan cheese.

4.  Toss your biscuit quarters into the bowl.

5. Take out your bunt pan and place the quarters evenly throughout the pan.

6.  Cook for 24 to 26 minutes

7. Flip the bunt pan onto a serving tray, so the butter side is up!

bread

While the bread is cooking begin to make your Pasta!

1. Fill about half way a 6 qt pot with water.  Cooke the penne as directed by the packaging.

2. While waiting for the water to boil begin to prepare the other ingredients.

3. In a medium saucepan, combine white wine, wine vinegar, basil and red peppers.

4. Cook down to about a tablespoon of liquid.

5. stir in the heavy cream and let boil down until reduced by half.

6. While you are waiting for your sauce to reduce, prepare your scallops.

7. In a skillet, add 1/2 cup of butter and a tablespoon of olive oil.  Bring to high heat letting the butter melt.

8. Add the scallops to the skillet salt and pepper for desired taste.

9. Check the bottom of the scallops every few minutes.  You are waiting for the bottom to have a caramel coloring.  Flip them when this coloring appears.

10.  Do the same process to the other side of the scallops.

11. Combine the scallops and butter from the skillet into your sauce.  Add the remaining 1/4 butter and let the butter melt down.

12.  Place the scallops and sauce over your penne pasta.

13.  Dinner is served!

Easter Recipies: Fizzle Ham

Fizzle Ham

This is a simple meal to put in the crock-pot as your beautiful self heads to church.  The Sprite is used to remove the salty flavor of the ham and is not overly powerful. Any sides will do!  The option of potatoes is optional, as it ups the cook time to 6 hours

The Flower Bow

The Flower Bow

Cooking Attire:This is a light-cooking day, so I recommend the beauty of the flower red bow baby  half apron by Trisha Trixie Designs.Your pearls and blaring red lipstick  will make you the apple of everyone’s eye.

MAKE UP FOR EVER - Rouge Artist IntenseThese cute little flat dotted shoes would be perfect to work in and still look oh so adorable

(Apron and shoe can be custom created for you by Trisha Trixie Designs. Also available in heel or flat.)

(The red lipstick is my favorite red and can be purchased at Sephora online or in stores. Pearls I found at a vintage store)

Ingredients:

v  1 Pre-cooked ham (big enough to feed your crew and small enough to fit your crock-pot)

v  1 16 ounce bottle of Sprite (*Hint* make sure everyone knows this will be used for a meal)

v  1 20 ounce can of crushed pineapple

v  Desired amount of sweet or baking potatoes (optional)

v  Drizzly amount of oil (optional)

Directions:

v  Place the ham in the crock-pot.

v  Poor Sprite over the top of the ham.

v  Dump the pineapples on top of the ham.

v  Drizzle oil onto a piece of foil that is large enough to cover potatoes (optional)

v  Poke a few holes in the potatoes with a fork and then wrap in foil.

v  Place potatoes on top of the ham.

v  Put the crock-pot on low for 3-4 hours without potatoes or 6 hours with potatoes.

Helpful Hints:

The longer you cook this ham, the better it will taste.

You can use an uncooked ham, but will need to look up crock-pot cook times for various sizes of hams.

If you like salt, feel free to put salt onto the drizzled oil to coat your potatoes.

Happy Holidays everyone and keep watching for more great things from Trisha Trixie Designs
