Elements to Thanksgiving Cooking for a Fashionista

Today is the day before Thanksgiving and of course this is the REAL day we all start cooking. I know how my sister prepares and how my grandmother prepared for the day, by worrying about the food and caring less about how they look. For a fashionista, however, the elements of fashion, though no one may even see her, can be an important role in this holiday.

For me it begins with the right house dress. I have to be able to move around in it. I like it to be cotton so it can breathe. I have one I am wearing today and one picked tomorrow that will go with my new apron I made.

Make sure you have comfortable shoes to move around in, go up and down stairs (my pantry in down a level)

A good hair tie to tie your hair back, but not too tight that it will give you a headache and…

A pretty Fascinator (made by me of course) to keep you looking pretty while you sweat it out through the cooking and baking all day.

No tights, or wear leggings if your think your legs might get cold. You will be in a hot kitchen so the likelihood is more so that you will be too hot not too cold.

A nice strand of pearls or something equivalent. I got this wonderful strand of beads at Backroads Studio. She is local to Iowa and her and her friend do amazing Jewelery pieces.

Some small, but charming little earrings. (I have a few of these left if you want some or they are easy to make and I think I found all the fixings for them at Walmart)

If you put on makeup, which I always do, apply lightly. If it is too heavy you will end up with more on a towel than on your face by the end of the day. I do very light makeup, using more on my eyes with eyeliner and mascara for fuller eyes.

For lipstick staying power throughout the day I use  Kat Von D

Finish it all off with hair spray, makeup powder by DD Dupree Cosmetics, Luana Foundation, Dr. FeelGood by Benefit,

and you are ready to start cooking!

Remember…

Bake first, cook later!

If you get all the baking out of the way those items can cool down and then you can pop that turkey in and lett that baby simmer the day away! I hope you all have a fabulous day today and tomorrow!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Kiss Kiss,

Try It Tuesday: Nautical bottle top shoes DIY

Nautical Bottle Top Shoes DIY

shoes1

This project was super fun and easy and I ended up with a delightful pair of new shoes!  I picked a nautical theme, but any idea will do ya!

We are going to be working with Modge Podge, so we have to dress for this project!

Attire Suggestions

turqueza polkadot

The Turqueza Polka-dot half apron by TrishaTrixie Designs reminds me of the ocean on a summer evening, don’t you think?

Turqueza paisley

Of course, if you can feel the ocean breeze you might desire a Turquza paisley by TrishaTrixie Designs to tie your ensemble together.

Titanic Traveler

The Titanic travel will add a hint of nautical wonder to your look.  TrishaTrixie Designs has many other nautical jewelry available at their shop!

Shoes you say?  We will have that covered in a bit.

Needed Items

  • Two bottle tops (I purchased a bag from the craft store as they lay flat on the shoes)
  • Modge Podge
  • 1 inch circle cutter (or you can create your own pattern)
  • Glue gun and hot glue
  • Images to put in the bottle tops
  • A pair of shoes to dazzle up.

Steps to create a Nautical shoe sensation

  1. Find images online and copy them into a word document.  Make them small enough that you will be able to create a 1 inch circle from the image.

1 inch

2. Use a circle cutter or create a 1 inch circle pattern and cut out your images.

3. Use the mod podge to lightly secure the images into the bottle caps.

4. Take the Mod Podge and fill in the top of the bottle cap

5.  Wait three hours for the Mod Podge to dry.

6.  Hot glue your bottle caps on the shoes (These shoes I purchased at Target for $5.95.  You can buy flats for a steal and glam them up!)

7.  Wear them with pride!  You made your own flare.

Saturday Morning Special: Kick up Yer Boots and Cowboy Up

I am a frilly willy kinda gal. But I have a few model pals, as well as family who are more “Down to Earth” I would say.

They like country music, Cowboy Boots and Flannel Shirts. They love overalls and bandanas and just like to kick back and take it easy. Their makeup is generally nothing at all or minimal at best. They are Country Folk.

I was born in Iowa, but raised in California so I feel like I am a MidwestCaliGal. That was my Yahoo Id for awhile before Facebook was so prominent and we all used Yahoo Groups (Remember that?).

I have created a Special Cowboy Up, Country Line just for those Country Folks. If you are a lover of the Country Life, check out the items I have in the Country Line Up…

Newly made boots for a Country Gal who love Pin Up “Tootsie Pop”

I can take any pair of Boots and paint them up for you. You can deicded the color you want and where or let me have free reign and create something Tootin Fabulous! $50 a pair

This was the starting design for the Country Apron…

The Design for the Country Apron

The finished Country Apron

and this is the finished product. Custom apron order run $50 to $100 depending on style, fabric, time, design and other embellishments you may want. Orders can take up to a month depending on any orders in front of you. Large order (Over 5 items) receive a discount as they will take longer and you are placing a larger order

Then Overall Apron

The Overall Apron

This is a part of The ReConstructed Line. These were originally regular overalls. Now it is a fabulous Overall Apron. Great for Gardening, Cooking, and the Country Gal even so cute, I bet you could wear it out! 🙂

This weekend I am pulling up my Roots and putting on some Country tunes, Cooking some good home cookin for my man, and owning up to my Country Heritage.

Are you a lover of Country things? Country Music? Old or New? Country Cooking? What kind? Homemade Bread,  Meals, what? I would love to know what types of country things suit your fancy. Please share here in teh comments (click the little heart in the corner) or on our Facebook page!

Wear It Wednesday: Vintage Valentine’s Fashion

Well, this time this post is going to be more like…What am I wearing tomorrow? With Valentine’s Day literally around the corner everyone is clamoring to figuring out what to wear, what shoes, what purse, hair, makeup etc.

I have been planning for weeks. Up until yesterday though of course. I went and found myself a Vintage looking Pink Dress. (Love pink can you tell?)

Sneak peek here (you have to wait until AFTER Vday to see the dress in action)

Then I went to this SUPER FAB place I go to all the time I think some of the girls know me by name. The place is called Atomic Garage. It’s in Des Moines in Valley Junction and I just ADORE them.Everything is Vintage, Retro etc… I just love the Vintage look and this store really helps me pull it together.

I bought this cute little Vintage purse, gloves and pendant to wear with my outfit. The purse needs a bit of work as the snap was coming off, but they knocked down the price a bit for me and I glued it back on today when I was working on my shoes.

And then the shoes…

I have been working on the shoes all day. I could go buy them or make my own. I would prefer to make my own. I reconstruct many things and one of my friends who redesigns shoes got me on this Reconstrcut kick so I have been giving a whirl at DIY projects for myself.

Here is what they started out looking like. They were actually Black about two weeks ago but I forgot to take a picture of them like that. Then I tried to spray paint them and yeah well that didn’t work so thrid time is a charm I guess…

They are unfinished but here is what I have so far… I am repainting them  with a softer pink and in a new way…(it’s a secret) I think I have finally found the formula for making shoes now. We will see how they hold up. The ones I did for New York did NOT stand up to the NY City Streets so I can back to the drawing board and hopefully I figured it out now. We will see..

I painted the underside too but that looks weird right now so I’m not showing you (Giggle) I added a fringe on the inside. I cut up an old sheer bag I got at a gift party and used the top part of the bag for the inside ruffle. Ingenious DIY don’t you think? Well, I do anyway…

If you want to see some other Valentine Pink ideas and fashions check out my Valentine Pink Pinterest Board

And if you are the curios type come back after Valentine’s Day to see what I did for my Vintage Hairstyle, how I did my makeup and how the who ensemble all turned out!

What are YOU planning on Wearing for Valentine’s Day? Anything Special?

Come share it on our Facebook page or comment below!!

Blast From The Past Throwback Thursday’s

Blast From The Past Thursday’s
The 80’s
Did you ever think that the past would repaper and the fashion of the 80’s would take you by storm.  Legwarmers, over sized tops worn with leggings, long skirts that are worn with belts. Boots with fringe, stiletto’s with all sorts of bright colors and sparkling glitter.  They are also wearing boots with legwarmers.

With all the ways you can wear the styles from the 80’s they look fashionable and very chick not to mention comfortable.
I was born in the 80’s and I remember the movies that came out in the 80’s some of the clothing and the styles we look at and think what were they thinking and low and behold they have came back with a POW and have knocked fashion off the charts.  A few movies that have some great styles are: The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Sixteen Candles, The Goonies.

So now that we have visited some of the  great things that have been blast form the past remember the next time you go to a clothing store and you pick up a article of clothing and think what would I this with think it will go with whatever you want it to .. that is the great thing about fashion it is always in.
